After an incredible inaugural year, we are thrilled to announce the 2026 Global Open OnDemand (GOOD26) Conference, an event for the entire Open OnDemand community! GOOD26 is a four-day in-person gathering taking place from March 9-12, 2026 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in live keynote sessions, talks, BoFs, and tutorials that share insights and best practices, explore new features, and strengthen the Open OnDemand community.

As with GOOD25, the conference will kick off at 1 PM local time on Monday afternoon (March 9) with the optional Contributor Jam, an intensive deep dive into our code and documentation which will prepare attendees to contribute back to the Open OnDemand open source project. 

Registration and the Call for Proposals are now open! We encourage an array of presentation modalities, including posters, prerecorded talks, and more (see website for details). Submissions are due on Dec 15, 2025. More information is available at: good26.openondemand.org

We are presenting the evolution of the Open OnDemand deployment, starting with simple installations on local clusters and progressively scaling to larger environments. As Open OnDemand became a critical service, the focus shifted toward ensuring service availability rather than increasing compute capacity, particularly in the presence of login node failures.

Two high-availability scaling models will be discussed. Focusing on the good points and the problems that can appear for each of models.

Topic: Deep learning meta-package with a Jupyterlab frontend for Open OnDemand

Abstract: Inspired by the PyGILE-Plus docker image, which is a meta-package of Geographic Information Systems, we developed a meta-package for deep learning applications. This package uses the Mamba Package Manager to create an environment with many packages for deep learning applications and containerizes this environment in a singularity file. This presentation will take a deep dive into the singularity definition file, how it is set-up for GPU support and how it is implemented as an interactive app in Open OnDemand.
